Overview

Chat Archive is designed with privacy at its core. This app processes all your imported chat content entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal messages or media on our servers. The app works fully offline when processing your data.

What data do we access?

Chat Archive accesses exported chat data from apps like WhatsApp, which you manually import. This data remains on your device and is never transmitted or uploaded elsewhere by Chat Archive.

What app and device data do we collect?

We collect the technical, usage, purchase, advertising, and diagnostic data described below. We do not collect, upload, or store your imported messages, contacts, files, or media on our servers; the app reads those files locally on your device.

Do we use analytics or tracking?

Yes. The app uses Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, RevenueCat, Google Ads attribution, and Apple advertising attribution to measure product usage, purchases, app stability, and whether acquisition campaigns lead to useful app activity. The website uses Firebase Analytics and advertising pixels to measure page views, clicks, engagement, locale, page path, and general campaign performance. These systems may process app or device identifiers, coarse location, product-interaction events, purchase history, advertising data, and diagnostic data. No personal chat content, contact names, filenames, message contents, search text, or imported media are collected or analyzed by us or these third parties.

Device type and OS version

Used to understand technical compatibility and performance.

App version

Used to diagnose issues and improve current releases.

Feature and website usage statistics

For example, app imports and search usage, website page views, CTA clicks, and engagement.

Crash reports and diagnostic data

Used to diagnose crashes and improve stability.

Advertising attribution and tracking permission

Chat Archive may ask for Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission after you have used a meaningful app feature. If you allow tracking, the app may use the advertising identifier (IDFA) to help measure which ads lead to imports, useful app activity, and purchases. If you decline, the app continues to work and may still use aggregate or modeled attribution that does not use IDFA, as provided by Apple and advertising platforms.

Tracking choices and pseudonymous identifiers

You can change the app's tracking permission in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, then Tracking. Chat Archive does not require an account and does not use your name or email address to identify app analytics or purchase records. Firebase and RevenueCat use pseudonymous app-installation and customer identifiers, so we cannot locate those records from an email address alone. The current app does not provide a way to view or copy these identifiers. Privacy questions can be sent to hello@chatarchive.app.

Retention and processing locations

Our service providers retain technical, analytics, purchase, advertising, and diagnostic data according to their policies and our service configurations. This data may be processed in countries outside the country where you live. Retention periods are determined by the applicable provider policies and service configurations.

How is this data used?

This data helps us understand general patterns of app and website usage, improve stability and usability, and measure whether acquisition campaigns are working. We do not sell your personal chat content or imported archive data.

App Permissions

Chat Archive may request permission to access your files in order to load and process WhatsApp export ZIP files. This permission is used strictly for core functionality and no file contents are ever transmitted off-device by Chat Archive.

Third Parties

We use the following third-party services for analytics, app functionality, purchases, diagnostics, and advertising measurement. These services may collect technical identifiers, event data, or campaign information, but they do not access or process your personal chat content, imported files, or media.

Google Firebase and Google Analytics

Used for app and website analytics, crash reporting, diagnostics, coarse location, and product-interaction measurement.

RevenueCat

Used to process purchase and subscription information, validate entitlements, and send purchase and attribution events. RevenueCat receives purchase history and technical identifiers, but not imported chat content.

Google Ads

Used to attribute app installs and conversion events, such as a successful first import or purchase, to advertising campaigns.

Apple AdServices and Apple Search Ads

Used to retrieve Apple campaign attribution information and measure whether Apple advertising leads to useful app activity and purchases.

Reddit Ads

Used on the website to measure visits and App Store click conversions from Reddit advertising.
